IV KETAMINE & SPRAVATO

IV Ketamine is an FDA approved medication used for anesthesia but at sub-anesthetic doses is also used to treat mental health conditions off-label including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD. IV Ketamine has rapid acting effects and can produce results even after the first treatment.

Spravato is an intranasal form of ketamine that is FDA-approved for the treatment of depression only. This medication is also rapid acting.

If you are an adult suffering with depression and have tried at least 2 antidepressants at moderate doses for 4 to 6 weeks or longer, you might be a candidate for Spravato treatment. These criteria are not requirements for IV Ketamine, however it is recommended that patients trial other treatment options first.

Yes! IV Ketamine and Spravato are very safe treatments as long as they are provided by trained healthcare professionals:

IV Ketamine and Spravato are not used for patients with: 

• Aneurysmal vascular disease (including thoracic and abdominal aorta, intracranial, and peripheral arterial vessels) or arteriovenous malformation
• History of intracerebral hemorrhage
• Uncontrolled hypertension
• History of mania or psychosis
• History with substance abuse
• Hypersensitivity to esketamine, ketamine, or any of the excipients

IV Ketamine is not covered by insurance, however, most medical plans will cover Spravato for treatment resistant depression.

IV Ketamine is typically infused intravenously over 40 minutes and is followed by a 30-60 minute monitoring period. Spravato treatment is administered by the intranasal route and is followed by a 2 hour monitoring period. Treatment will occur twice for the first three weeks and then as needed. You will require a ride home from a friend or family member.
